My name is Katrina Gobin, and I am currently completing my final year at Iona Catholic Secondary School. As an Aquarius, creativity and individuality have always been a big part of who I am. From a very young age, I was surrounded by the arts, and that early exposure naturally grew into a deep passion for performance.
I began dancing when I was six years old, and over time I expanded my artistic abilities to include playing the piano, ukulele, and electric guitar, which I have been studying since 2012. Alongside music, I trained in theatre and voice, discovering that storytelling through performance was where I truly felt at home.
Throughout my life, I have faced both mental and physical challenges. During those difficult times, theatre became my escape and my strength. Stepping into different characters allowed me to express emotions I sometimes struggled to articulate myself. Acting taught me empathy, resilience, and self-awareness. It helped me grow not only as a performer, but as a person. Learning to step into someone else’s shoes gave me a deeper understanding of people and the complexities of their experiences.
As I immersed myself further into theatre, I began exploring every aspect of production. Beyond performing, I developed skills in photography, sound and projection operation, and hair and makeup for stage productions. These experiences gave me a deeper appreciation for the collaborative nature of the arts and strengthened my versatility within the creative world.
One of my proudest achievements has been playing the title role in Cinderella. I have also portrayed Lily in Anastasia and taken on the iconic villain role of the Wicked Witch in The Wizard of Oz. Being able to range from heartfelt leading roles to powerful antagonists has allowed me to challenge myself and grow with each performance.
My ultimate dream is to become a professional actress. As a woman of colour, I hope to inspire young people who see themselves in me and remind them that their dreams are valid and achievable. I want to continue pushing myself, taking on meaningful roles, and proving that with passion, dedication, and resilience, anything is possible.
